Times have been changing…
We’ve all seen it happen over the last dozen or so years. That creeping ooze of “digital” that has changed our lives and the workplace forever. Remember bookstores? Amazon now takes care of that. Even things like the mail have been replaced by Gmail. And we have seen it in our own workplaces as well. Accounting software, sales reporting, selling – step by step digital has encroached.
Usually this has been good for the company.
And usually this has also been bad for the older employees. Employees who grew up in a different age, weren’t born with an iPhone in their pocket, and find themselves being surpassed by youngsters who not only can work online – but cost the company half as much.
For years the older generation has been impacted by these changes. But not anymore…
Times are changing, again…
Two shifts have been happening in the last few years. Ease-of-use and experience.
Firstly – the internet has become so much easier to do.
For ages now the internet, a new thing to so many of us when it first arrived, has been getting simpler to work. Companies have popped up that do so many of the techi chores for you. So whereas you once needed a pretty good grasp of all the inner workings, now it is more about what you say than how you get it onto Google.
So – “But what if I have zero digital skills?” is now a concern of the past. The truth is that acquiring the digital skills to create an online presence is the easy part. The tools available are out there, easy to find, and easy to use. But more of that later. First the good news. You’ve already done the hardest part.
If you are in your 50s or 60’s, you might not have realised it yet, but you are an authority at something. Maybe more than one thing. If you’ve had a career, a hobby, or even just a life experience (you know; Divorce, kids leaving home, bereavement…), you know stuff that other people will value.
It could be that you have operated a digger for thirty years, that you enjoy riding moto-cross bikes, or maybe you’ve navigated the menopause successfully. You’ve gained skills and learnings, from how to actually do things, to what related products and services you might use.
And now, by taking your experience online, you can earn an online income connecting with people around the world who can benefit from your knowledge.

Angie in South Africa was a teacher and spent many years working with difficult kids. She discovered that the parents and kids had often drifted apart during the teenage years.
